GERMAN ROCKET REACHES ORBIT IN MAJOR MILESTONE FOR EUROPEAN SPACEFLIGHT ANDØYA, Norway, September 7, 2026 — GPC.NEWS — German space company Isar Aerospace has successfully sent its Spectrum rocket into orbit from Norway's Andøya Spaceport, marking a major milestone for Europe's rapidly developing commercial space sector. The two-stage Spectrum rocket lifted off from the Arctic launch facility carrying five small satellites and a technology experiment into space. The successful mission represents a dramatic advance for Isar Aerospace following Spectrum's first test flight in March 2025, which ended shortly after liftoff. This time, the rocket completed the critical phases required to reach orbit, demonstrating capabilities that could eventually give European satellite operators another alternative for launching payloads without relying on providers outside the continent. The achievement is particularly significant as European governments seek greater strategic independence in space. Europe has faced limited launch capacity in recent years following the retirement of Ariane 5, delays surrounding newer launch systems and the loss of access to Russian Soyuz rockets after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. A new generation of privately financed European companies is now competing to fill that gap. Isar Aerospace, headquartered near Munich, is among the most prominent of those emerging launch providers. Spectrum was designed primarily to carry small and medium-sized satellites into low Earth orbit, a market that has expanded rapidly with the growth of communications, Earth-observation and defense satellite constellations. The successful flight also strengthens Norway's Andøya Spaceport as an emerging European launch hub because of its northern location and access to trajectories over sparsely populated ocean areas. For Europe, the mission is about considerably more than a single rocket.
